Rebecca Chung

Rebecca Chung is a fifteen year-old violinist based in New York City. Rebecca currently attends the Precollege Program at the Manhattan School of Music, where she studies with Patinka Kopec. From 2014-2023, Rebecca attended the 92NY Music School where she studied with Inna Berkhin. In addition, she was a recipient of the Recanati-Kaplan Scholarship at 92NY in 2022 and 2023.

From 2022-23, Rebecca participated in the New York Youth Symphony’s Chamber Music Program where she was coached by Titilayo Ayangade. In 2021 and 2022, she also participated in the Chamber Music Center of New York’s Chamber Music Program, where she was coached by many musicians such as Mary Jo Pagano, Sibylle Johner, Lauren Cauley and Nikita Morozov.

Currently, Rebecca serves as the concertmaster of MSM Precollege’s Repertory Orchestra. She also was the principal second violinist of the Chamber Music Center of New York Orchestra in 2021 and the co-concertmistress in 2022 and 2023. In addition, she came in second place at the Chamber Music Center of New York’s Concerto Competition in 2022.

For the past two years, Rebecca has attended the Heifetz International Music Institute, where she studied with Caeli Smith and Chloe Kiffer. She has also participated in the summer program at the Chamber Music Center of New York, and over the pandemic, Rebecca was a part of the Manhattan School of Music’s virtual summer program, where she studied with E. J. Lee. 

Rebecca has performed in spaces such as Carnegie Hall and Scandinavia Hall. She has performed alongside The Knights and other prominent musicians such as Claire Chan, Lisa Heffter and Peter Prosser. She has played in masterclasses for Randall Goosby, Melissa White, Rebecca Fischer, Arnaud Sussman, and Ashley Horne.

Rebecca is passionate about using her musicianship for good. She has performed at schools and in concerts for nursing homes, and this year, she joined the Midori and Friends NextGen Program, where she learns to advocate for equality in music education.
